How many of you may have heard of local band Burning Embers whose seminal album
'Songs from the Ashes' was released to some acclaim last year?
The album was
inspired by 'that book' and according to Dominic Taylor, co-writer of the songs
along with Nigel Nix, the album is still selling well especially to tourists and has
received quiet a bit of radio play both here and in America.
Indeed a high proportion
of sales has come from the Diaspora and of course what better memento
could an immigrant want than something to remind him of Limerick and home.
It was also well received by Frank Mc Court who said: "I can only tell you how moved I was that you undertook and completed such a demanding project. My wife Ellen and I just scratched our heads in wonder…"
Anyone wishing to purchase a copy for that someone special abroad can get it in
any record shop or on the net at Limerick.Com.
The band are currently working on their second album provisionally called 'Limerick……After The Rain' and is due for release later this year.
The theme of the new album is again Limerick but with emphasis on Limerick people both past and present, with the Bard of Thomond, author Louis Byrne, Tom and Paschal, Jim Dalton being just some of the characters eulogised. Also on the album is some original poetry by local poet John Liddy as well as some prose written by local author Michael Curtin. The album is a celebration of Limerick people and Limerick life and so should again prove popular.
Burning Embers comprise of Vincent Fitzgerald - vocals, Jim Hanly - keyboards/percussion, Mike Moriarty - guitars, Nigel Nix - guitar. Sean Kelly joins the band for the new album as co-songwriter as well as on vocals and guitar.
