Limerick is this week mourning a woman who worked tirelessly and used her singing talents to raise money for breast cancer.

Julie-Anne Dineen was diagnosed with breast cancer more than three years ago and then became an ambassador for fundraising for the cause.

Limerick’s iconic floating Christmas tree will not return to the river this year, Limerick City Council have confirmed.

 The 100 feet tree, made entirely of recycled metals – some from the stand in Thomond Park – has been a fixture at Christmas, but has had its problems, including toppling over earlier this year.

A UK-based ‘discount store’ is set to move into the unit, at 20 William Street, with deals expected to be finalised over the coming days, according to  DTZ Sherry Fitzgerald.

Proposals to build a 50 bedroom hotel at the Unicorn Bar in Dooradoyle have been appealed to An Bord Pleanala.

Limerick County Council had approved plans for the €4m development, which would see two homes situated between the Unicorn and the roundabout of St Paul’s Church demolished and replaced with a budget hotel.
