Riverfest on Bank Holiday weekend

Limerick will be the place to be this May Bank Holiday weekend as thousands of people are expected to arrive in the city for a plethora of events associated with Riverfest 2010.

Already one of the biggest dates on the local calender, this year’s four day festival has received a major boost with the news that the BBQ event is to return to George’s Quay under the guise of the Great Limerick BBQ – a tie-in with the Great Limerick Run, in which up to 7,000 people are expected to compete.

A wide range of events are to take place as part of Riverfest, which will run over four days from Friday, April 30 to Monday, May 3.

The much-loved continental market will run every day of the festival, while a currach regatta and music and arts events will also take place.

While O’Connell Street will most likely not play host to thousands of screaming Munster fans watching the Heineken Cup Semi-Final against Biarritz on big screens, it is thought likely that Thomond Park might yet accommodate such an event within its grounds.
