Limerickman Brings Portable Solar Power To Ireland

Imagine having a power source designed to charge all your mobile devices without tying you to a power outlet? Just plug a standard car charger into the bag and recharge most small electronic devices including: cell phones, cameras, two way radios, PDA's, and MP3s.

Imagine no more thanks to Eoin O'Halloran, a Limerickman who has introduced this miracle technology to Ireland. Called the Voltaic Backpack it is a creation by a US company called Voltaic Systems, who specializes in solar powered backpacks.

According to Mr. O’Halloran: " there is a tremendous public and media interest in sustainable products and we expect that there will be enormous media interest here in this product as in the US where it was featured on CNN, NY1, Discovery Channel, BBC, ABC, NBC, Fortune, US News and World Report and the list goes on.”

The solar bag is not just pleasing to look at, but also a solid backpack all around, from a design perspective.

The solar panels are made from high efficiency mono-crystalline solar cells which are made to provide the maximum amount of power for a given space. They are mounted onto a lightweight aluminum frame which make the solar panels light but extremely durable.

Solar panels have the capability of giving a user perpetual energy for free, once the initial investment in the bag has been made, as opposed to all other AC or DC car chargers wherein once you have purchased the product (say a DC cell phone charger, you have to continuously generate that power via fossil fuel or conventional electric generation methods).

"Our products save customers money over time, by eliminating the need for purchasing throw away AA batteries, or electric bills, in addition to costs to our environment for conventional power and disposable batteries", emphasises Mr. O'Halloran.

The fabric of the bags is made from recycled PET, a material made from reprocessing waste plastic soda bottles.

It is estimated that the bags save approx. 6-9 plastic soda bottles from the landfill.

The bags contain a powerful lithium ion rechargeable battery pack which allows a user to charge any manner of handheld portable electronics at the same rate as plugging into conventional AC wall power.

If you're the type that carries a lot of different gear—or even just one piece of equipment that you always need charged—the Voltaic Solar Bag could prove indensible. www.voltaicsystems.com
