Patrick Bergin brings a touch of tinsletown to Limerick

Last weekend a touch of tinsletown came to Limerick as Hollywood actor Patrick Bergin presented the prestigious 2007 UNFRINGED awards at the Upstairs venue in Dolan’s bar.

Judges for the festival attended every performance and made their nominations accordingly, with finalists in each category announced on Saturday night.

The Belltable invited guests to attend the intimate awards reception last Saturday night where the winners of the Best Production, Best Female Act, Best Male Act, Spirit of Unfringed and Special Judges Award were chosen.

The event, which was sponsored by Tipperary Crystal and Midas Touch celebrated all the artists, technicians, venues, producers and sponsors that took part in this years Unfringed festival.

There was a great turnout for the event with special guest Patrick Bergin who has starred in blockbusters like Sleeping with The Enemy, opening and presenting the first annual Unfringed awards ceremony.

This was the perfect end to an incredibly successful ten-day festival which took place across ten venues in Limerick.

The festival itself made a great impact, hosting International, National and Local work in the fields of drama, literature, music cabaret, film and dance.

The award for Innovation went to Teaspach for their production of 100 and Limerick Youth Theatre also picked up a special Judges Commendation with specially commissioned Tipperary glass awards for all the winners.

Sunday night then the glamour factor continued with the team at Ann Summers on Cruises street putting on a fashion show in aid of the Marie Keating foundation, which does trojan work in Ireland for breast cancer charities.

Manager Sharon Bromell and a team of local volunteers like Tracy Henigar, Michelle Costelloe and Sean Costelloe organised a fantastic show hosted by compere Ken Bowers.

There was also excellent music on the night provided by 80s band Children of the Night and DJ Bugsy who kept everyone thoroughly entertained.

A mix of local models, art students and dancers showed their support and strutted their stuff on the catwalk displaying the Ann Summers Valentines collection just in time for the big day.

There was also great support on the night from local businesses including Bellissimo who created the hair styles, make-up artists Jodie and Rachel who also gave their time and Black tie who provided the menswear.

Other companies like Keanes Jewellers, Trinity Rooms, Thorntons and Cute at Arthurs Quay also showed their support for the event and there was a great selection of spot prizes from various generous Limerick companies.

According to Sharon Bromell all the proceeds will now go to the Marie Keating foundation "It was a great night, very professional and we've had brilliant feedback from the event" she said.

"LIT are also putting on a fashion show this week and they will also be donating their proceeds to the foundation so its been a great success".
