Maeve is well on her way to becoming a star

Laurel Hill student Maeve O’Donovan, is well on her way to becoming a star after continually wowing audiences in the you’re A Star competition.

This Sunday, she is hoping to take another step towards the final. As the only remaining girl in the show, and at 16, the youngest contestant, Maeve is one of six singers still vying for the top prize.

Maeve is a 5th year student in Limerick. She plays the guitar and piano and writes her own songs. She has been doing stage shows since the age of four.

Her mum is an artist while her dad coaches the forwards for the Irish Rugby Team. She has met all of the Irish team and they have already pledged their support.

Maeve has said that listening to Jose Feliciano and Loudon Wainwright with her parents when she was growing up inspired her to take up the guitar.

The winner will scoop a recording deal with Universal Music Group, a music publishing agreement with Sony/ ATV Publishing Ltd UK, and music equipment from Roland Ireland, valued at 10,000 euro.

And the Ardnacrusha native is hoping to get the thumbs up from judges by singing ‘You say it best when you say nothing at all’ - made famous by Ronan Keating in the film Notting Hill.

This ties in with the movie theme of this week’s show. Maeve said that Limerick people have all been really supportive. "You’re always a bit nervous before each show but it definitely gets easier with time. I’m loving it,” she said.

Although everyone finds it hard to face the wrath of the judges, Maeve said you have to just learn from it as they are simply there to advise you. The fifth year student is still managing to juggle school with fame.

There are now six acts left out of the original 12. Hoping to go all the way, Maeve is now urging Limerick people to vote for her this weekend.
