Rapparee Productions with the support of Bishop Brendan Leahy and the Limerick Diocesan Office have announced the launch of the Sarsfields Run, a 5km and 10km fun rub around five medieval parishes of Limerick.
The parishes include: St. Munchins, St. Marys, St. Patricks and St. Michaels. The run is planned for Sunday August 10th, as part of the festival weekend dedicated to Patrick Sarsfield and the heroes of Limerick in 1690.
This festival, called Sarsfields Day, is sponsored by Limerick City of Culture and will run from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th August 2014.
Each parish will perform some event on the run route in front of their respective churches to entertain the runners and spectators. There will be a prize for the best represented parish, which will be voted for by the runners and a panel of celebrity judges on the day.
Sarsfields Day nfestival weekend will consist of fun runs, cycle tour of Sarsfields Ride through Clare, Tipperary and Limerick, passing through Ballyneety and starting and finishing at the Treaty Stone. There will be concerts, battle re-enactments, pagentry and fireworks over the whole weekend.
