Mr Binman receiver reassures customers and employees

Customers and employees of Mr Binman have received a boost after it was confirmed the receivers will not cut jobs, or interrupt the collection service.

Receiver Kieran Wallace of KPMG confirmed that the bin collection service to Mr Binman’s 56,900 domestic customers will continue without interruption.

And following separate meetings with local TDs Kieran O’Donnell, Niall Collins and Willie O’Dea, the receiver has also said there will be no job cuts.

Mr Binman is one of Limerick’s largest employers, with 331 people on the payroll, while at least 200 more rely on the firm. There were fears for these jobs when the company’s biggest creditor, Bank of Scotland (Ireland) – owed around €53m – appointed joint receivers to the firm.

This followed the High Court’s rejection of Mr Binman’s attempt to instead enter examinership.

“We’re going to continue the service for customers who have their bins collected. There is absolutely no issue with that at all,” Mr Wallace said.

Cathaoirleach Mary Harty welcomed the news, describing Mr Binman as a “flagship employer” in the East Limerick area: “I am delighted to hear the receiver has declared he is to keep it open as a going concern, and keep the service at full tilt, with all the employees on the book. Hopefully, he can turn it around and make a success of the venture.”
