Insignia Publications, Limerick's newest publishing house announces the arrival of 'The Gold Nugget' 'The Gold Nugget is a brand new collection of short stories by one of Limerick's best known local writers Maureen Sparling. Something of a local celebrity Maureen Sparling has been christened 'THE POET LAUREATE OF KING'S ISLAND'

Maureen Sparling has achieved notoriety as a poetess and also short story writer. No stranger to local media her work has appeared in 'The Limerick Leader 'and 'Limerick Christmas Gazette' and been featured on RTE Radio One and local radio in Limerick.

Maureen has published five collections of poetry and built an impressive local following her skills as a short story writer have largely remained a secret until now that its! With the arrival of 'The Gold Nugget' an exciting new chapter the her career has begins. Her short stories all fictitious though with some intriguing exceptions depict contemporary happenings with a comical twist, colourful characters and days gone by in Limerick and the surrounding counties of Clare Waterford and Galway. Maureen casts her humorous, critical, solidly rooted and humanistic eye on a variety of situations from frustrated journalists to marital etiquette and the ghost of a 'wannabee' actress from 'Pigtown' who just won't lie down and die!.

Maureen's work is eloquent descriptive and highly accomplished. From her poetic works one can glimpse the inclination to write short stories and now this has happened. The Gold Nugget isn't Maureen's first collection of short stories 'Tales from Kings Island Cottage' has that honour but The Gold Nugget' finds her art more clearly defined, articulate and more accomplished than before Generously illustrated by Limerick artist Bob Cullen and edited by journalist and broadcaster John O'Regan and issued on his own Publishing House Imprint 'Insiginia Publications' 'The Gold Nugget' is an all Limerick production written by a Limerick author, edited by a Limerick Journalist and illustrated by a Limerick artist. To complete the the local nature of the enterprise and colour of the project Mike Finn of 'Pigtown' fame has written the introduction
